RESTORMEL MANOR
In March 2008, the company started work on its largest
project to date. The conversion of the Grade II listed
Restormel Manor, into three holiday homes which can if needed be
opened up so that the house can be let as one unit if required.
There is also a range of outbuildings which are being converted
into a further six holiday lets. All of the works are being
carried out to give the client a ‘5 Star’ rating for their holiday
homes.
The works to the Manor, which can be traced back to being
the site of a 12th Century chapel, have been particularly
interesting and has at times, required visits from Archaeologists
who have had to identify the purpose of large voids in areas below
the house. The Manor has been re-roofed in local Cornish
slate, while externally the entrance Tower and new kitchen
extension have been clad with vertical wet laid scantle slate, new
purpose made joinery was supplied from the company’s own joiners
shop. Internally large areas of slate flooring have been re-laid
to pattern. Structural alterations and extensive repairs of
the existing structure were needed, before any of the
refurbishments could start. The internal finishes are of a
high standard and the internal designs were directed by Interior
Designer Annabel Elliot.
On the range of outbuildings, the company re-roofed the
structure with rag slate, before re-pointing all of the stonework.
Internally the outbuildings have been re-furbished to the Clients
own high specification which included areas of oak floor, wood
burners, fitted kitchens and all new joinery, again Annabel Elliot
oversaw the internal finishes.
The hot water and heating for the whole site including
the swimming pool is being provided by a large Bio Mass boiler,
which is fuelled by woodchip and is housed in a new boiler house
which has been sunk into the ground to lessen its impact on the
site.
In January 2009, the company won the tender to build a new
indoor swimming pool and tennis court base for the Client within
the Manor grounds. The contract is due for completion in July
2009 and the value of the project will be close to 2.3 million.
